Why We Built This Reference
The records behind old printed directories did not disappear when publication slowed. They moved into separate systems. Mobile County Revenue identifies assessed owners. Mobile County Probate indexes land transfers and preserves historic books. Alabama voter law controls registration data, while Mobile Public Library and the Alabama Department of Archives and History hold older directory runs. We bring the search routes, coverage limits, office contacts, and request options together so local and family research does not begin at the wrong desk.
What This Reference Provides
- Distinct search angles: a directory by street, historical city directories, and a one-person resident lookup
- Official sources: Revenue, Probate, election, court, vital-record, and local-history channels
- Practical methods: tracing an address, reading a directory entry, and following a household across time
- Access boundaries: what Alabama law opens, what remains protected, and which office accepts a narrow request
Services We Do Not Provide
This is a privately run reference site. It is not part of Mobile County, the City of Mobile, Alabama government, any court, or any library. Those boundaries mean:
- We cannot confirm that a named person now lives in Mobile County
- We do not retrieve, certify, amend, or file public records for visitors
- We cannot add or remove a person from an official index or roll
- We do not provide legal advice about a record or dispute
- We cannot guarantee that every link, fee, hour, or coverage date remains current
Only the custodian office can confirm, certify, or correct a record. Nothing found through this site may be used for credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions.
